How we vet the window contractors we send to your home
“Vetted” is the most abused word in home improvement marketing. On most sites it means somebody paid for the click. Here is what it means to us, check by check — including how you can verify every single one yourself, whether you use our service or not.
Windows are a project you do once in twenty-five years. The install matters as much as the product: a premium window seated badly in an out-of-square opening will leak air, stick, and void its own warranty. So the contractor is the real decision.

Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor registration
Pennsylvania requires anyone doing more than $5,000 of home improvement work a year to register with the Attorney General and display a PA HIC number. We look up the number, confirm it is active, and confirm the registered business name matches the company that will show up at your door. An expired or borrowed number is an automatic no.
Check it yourself: Search any contractor by name or HIC number at the PA Attorney General’s Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act registry.
General liability insurance, verified with the carrier
We require a current certificate of insurance naming the contracting entity, and we confirm the policy is active rather than taking a PDF at face value. If a ladder goes through your siding or a sash cracks a hardwood floor, this is the policy that pays for it instead of you.
Check it yourself: Ask your installer for a certificate of insurance listing you as certificate holder. Any legitimate contractor can produce one the same day.
Workers' compensation coverage for every crew member
This is the check homeowners skip most often and regret most badly. If an uninsured installer is injured on your property, you can end up personally exposed. We confirm coverage for employees and ask directly whether subcontracted crews are used and how they are covered.
Check it yourself: Ask: “Are the people installing my windows your employees, and are they covered by your workers' comp policy?” Then ask for it in writing.
A real local track record in your county
We look for installers who have been working in the Lehigh Valley, Poconos, NEPA, or Berks and Schuylkill for years, not storm-chasers passing through. That means a physical local address, reviews spread across multiple years and multiple towns, and jobs we can point at in the same kind of housing stock as yours.
Check it yourself: Ask for three addresses of jobs finished in your township in the past year. Local installers answer this instantly.
Manufacturer certification for what they install
Most window warranties only pay out in full when installed by a factory-certified installer, and a botched install voids coverage no matter how good the window is. We confirm partners are certified for the product lines they sell, and that the labor warranty is in writing alongside the manufacturer’s glass and frame coverage.
Check it yourself: Ask which warranty covers labor, which covers the window, and how many years each runs. Two separate answers is the correct answer.
Written, itemized quote before any deposit
Partners agree to leave a written quote that lists window count, style, frame material, glass package, install method (insert versus full-frame), trim and disposal, and the total. No verbal-only pricing, no "sign tonight for this price" discount that evaporates by morning.
Check it yourself: If a price drops several thousand dollars because you hesitated, the first number was never real. Walk away.
No high-pressure closing tactics
We hear about it when a partner leans on a homeowner, and we act on it. A quote should be good for weeks so you can compare it calmly against others. Same-day-only pricing, four-hour presentations, and manager phone calls for approval are all grounds for removal from the network.
Check it yourself: A quote you can sleep on is the single best signal of a contractor who expects to win on merit.
Ongoing feedback from every homeowner we match
Vetting once is not vetting. We follow up after appointments and after installs, and consistent complaints about no-shows, pressure, surprise change orders, or unresponsive service get a partner removed. Because our fee is flat and paid per introduction, we gain nothing by protecting a bad actor.
Check it yourself: Tell us how the appointment went, good or bad. It directly changes who we send to your neighbors.
What we do not claim
We are not a licensing body, an insurer, or a guarantor of anyone's workmanship. Your contract for the work is with the contractor, not with us, and their warranty is the one that covers your windows. What we can tell you honestly is that no company reaches your door without clearing the eight checks above, and that we remove partners who stop clearing them.
Read the fine print in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy — including exactly who receives your information.
Questions about vetting
Do you install the windows yourselves?
No. LehighValleyWindows.com is a free matching service operated by VERACO LLC. The independent local contractor we match you with performs the assessment and the installation under their own contract, license, and insurance.
How many contractors will contact me?
One. We match your request to a single vetted local partner for your project rather than selling your information to several installers. That is the entire point of the service.
Is a Pennsylvania contractor license required for window replacement?
Pennsylvania does not issue a statewide trade license for window installation, but it does require Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) registration with the Attorney General for anyone performing more than $5,000 of home improvement work per year. Individual municipalities may also require permits. Every partner in our network carries an active PA HIC registration.
What if I do not like the contractor you send?
Tell us. There is no obligation at any point — not before the assessment, and not after you have the written quote in hand. We will note the feedback and, if you still want quotes, look for another partner in your area.
Can I use your checklist on a contractor I found myself?
Please do. Every item on this page is something you can verify yourself in an afternoon: HIC registration in the state registry, a certificate of insurance from the carrier, written warranty terms, and an itemized quote. A homeowner who runs these checks is a homeowner who does not get burned.
